London Marathon 2024
This Sunday along with an amazing 50,000 participants and amidst the cheers and the adrenaline-pumping atmosphere of the marathon, Charlie Shepherd, a mother, our work colleague but above all friend and amazing person, laced up her trainers to run the London Marathon. She did this not just for personal achievement but for an amazing charity – the Shooting Star Hospice.
The anticipation had been building for months as we watched her dedicate herself to training for this event. Balancing the demands of work and family, she has shown an incredible commitment to her goal, setting aside time before or after work and on weekends to log those essential miles. It's been a journey of early mornings, late nights, and countless sacrifices, but with each step, she moved closer to her target, both in terms of her running goals and her fundraising efforts.
The Shooting Star Hospice is a local Surrey based Charity which provides essential care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families, offering comfort, respite, and a compassionate hand during some of life's most challenging moments. By taking on the marathon challenge, Charlie is not just running for herself; she's running for those who rely on the vital services provided by the hospice. Charlie has raised nearly £4,000 so far and donations can still be made - https://www.justgiving.com/page/charlie-shepherd-1692016186576
Whilst we now celebrate her remarkable achievement of finishing her first marathon in under 5 hours we also take a moment to reflect on the values she embodies – the values of empathy, perseverance but above all kindness.
To Charlie, we say thank you – thank you for reminding us of what truly matters, and for showing us the incredible heights that can be reached when we dare to dream and to act with compassion.
We are all so, so proud of you!
